I called the police phone and no one answered, why?

The police phone is a office phone that also rings to the police radios.  If an officer is out of the office on a traffic stop or on his/her way to take someone to jail, and is a few miles outside of town he/she will not be able to answer the phone on the radio.  This is why the recording on the phone tells people that if there call is an emergency to hang up and call 911.  This way the dispatcher can page the officer and let them know about the call.

UPDATE

Due to budgetary restraints In December 2006 the Udall City Council voted to remain with two full-time officers, and to limit paid part-time officers to working two shifts per week.

If a full-time officer is sick, on vacation or attending their forty hours of required classroom training, these shifts will be covered by the Cowley county sheriffs department.

When these shifts are covered by the local sheriff you may experience call response time that differ greatly from those of the local police department.  If you have any questions please fill free to contact us.
